A steering valve may also be called an orbital or directional control valve. The valve may be directly connected to the steering column or as a component of a steering gear. The function of a steering valve is to direct the flow of fluid to a steering cylinder, as the oil flow passes through the valve to the cylinder pressure is created as the cylinder acts against the load.
